tactile
Tactile is a site-specific wall installation composed of 48 carved soap pieces. Each element represents a letter from the Braille alphabet. Together, they spell out the phrase “What is essential is invisible to the eye”, a quote from The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The elements were distributed across two separate locations. A small portion (“to the eye”) was installed inside the gallery, placed on the wall near the exit. The soap pieces were hung at a height that invites the viewer to touch the work. The rest of the phrase was installed in a nearby nail salon.
Due to the ephemeral nature of the material, the work is meant to gradually disappear. In this sense, its content becomes increasingly “private,” and the viewer is led along a path that is not merely physical or sensory, but also evokes something inner and intangible.
